Welcome (back) to the team - I’m really grateful to have you. I want to get all the expectations out upfront before we get started, so here we go.
Accepting Work
As a subcontractor, you are not required to accept whatever work is offered to you. Work offers may come in the form of email, phone calls, or texts. If any one of these forms is unacceptable to you, it’s your responsibility to make it known.
Music City Sewing does not offer permanent employment nor does it take out taxes on your behalf. At the end of the work year, if you have made over $600 in wages, you will receive a 1099-MISC. Work will be offered on a weekly basis and it is your responsibility to confirm your schedule with Krystal. If you are unable to make it to work, you are responsible for letting her know so that she can replace you. You will not be penalized should you be unable to show up, unless it becomes a pattern (penalty comes in the form of not being offered any more work).
Because you are subcontractor, Music City Sewing cannot train you how to do your position. If you are offered work, it is under the assumption that you have full understanding of how to complete the task. You will be shown what is expected of you at the start of each project.
Respect the space
Please remember to clean up your trash and thread trimmings at the end of each work shift. Our new workspace (work in progress) is freaking beautiful.. let’s keep it that way. Please clean up your thread trimmings, put away your tools at the end of each workday, and leave your workspace better than you found it. If you brought food into the space, please dispose of it in the designated food trashcan (in the kitchen only).
Uncovered drinks are not permitted near sewing machines or product. Repeat offenders won’t be invited back to work.
Please respect that everyone has different tastes in conversation topics, music, movies, etc. Respect the tastes of others by using headphones unless everyone is in agreement on your music choice.
This location is mixed use, which means that while it’s a commercial space, there are tenants living and sleeping right above your head. Keep a reasonable noise level and be aware of your threshold for volume. If you hear yourself echo-ing, you are being too loud. Being noisy also makes you annoying to be around, so don’t do that.
Delivery
Unless we’ve arranged for a super special situation, all work must be completed in-house. If a special circumstance should arrive where you must work remotely, and should you be unable to deliver your completed work back to base, you’ll be responsible for arranging & paying for a courier service to do so for you.
Compensation
Compensation is always agreed upon upfront before work begins. I reserve the right to choose another stitcher for a project at any given time due to rate, availability, or work quality. Subcontractor pay rates can be reviewed bi-annually.
You must complete a W9 before I can give you any work whatsoever. Send all filled out W9s to krystal@musiccitysewing.com.
Payroll runs semi-monthly (every two weeks) and payouts are set up on direct deposit. If you have not yet received a direct deposit from us, please submit a voided check or include account & routing numbers in order for me to set you up on one.
If the quality or pace of your work does not meet expectations, we reserve the right to remove you from the project immediately. Do your best, and care - your ability to get more work from me depends on us keeping a good reputation in our energy and quality.
Maternity/Time off
Subcontractors get to call the shots on their lives - children included. Some people like to work while their newborns sleep - others want 6 months off. It’s your call.
Provisions
As a subcontractor, it is your responsibility to supply yourself with the tools needed to get the job done. With that being said, it gets tough to carry a chair with you to work each day. MCS will do its best to provide you with a comfortable work chair, but it is your responsibility to supply your:
sewing machine
thread (you’ll be notified of what color)
scissors
headphones
